Send large files by email
By admin on Jan 3, 2009 in Software
I am sure many Internet users have come across this problem: how to deliver a 700MB file directly to someone’s email address? If you want to make sure that only the intended recipient receives the file, then you need to find a way to send files by email and bypass the limit for email attachments. Obviously, both sender and receiver must have broadband connections to upload and download files quickly. I had this problem too, and I was lucky to find Pando.
Pando is a free P2P software that makes emailing of large files (up to 1GB) possible. With this software, you can easily upload the file to Pando’s secure server and email the location of the file to the recipient. Once the recipient receives the email with the link to the file, he/she can download the file from the server to his/her hard drive.
Another good thing about Pando is that the recipient does not have to be online when you send the file. Pando’s servers will hold the file for 7 days, so you only need to upload it, send the link and wait. The receiver has 7 days to download it before it is deleted. The file is encrypted while being uploaded/downloaded, so you won’t have to worry that someone else will see the contents of the file. Just in case, you can also pack the contents in a zip/rar file and protect it with a password before you send it away.
To send the file, first download the program by clicking on the Get Pando link and run the setup file. Once the installation is complete, open the program (Start, All Programs, Pando or click on the Pando icon on the desktop) and click on Share Now. The following steps are pretty easy. You just need to find the file or folder you want to send and enter the recipient’s email address. Instructions can also be found at Pando’s Web site.
