First Web site registered in 1985
By admin on Mar 16, 2010 in Internet
Yesterday was a special day for the Internet. Exactly 25 years ago, the first Web site with a dotcom name was registered. On March 15, 1985, Symbolics.com was registered by Symbolics Computer Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts and it entered the history books as the first Web address on the Internet. Only five other companies joined the Internet revolution that year. This was way before even first html browsers was developed (Mosaic in 1992).
Who would have thought back then that the Internet would be what it is today? Whoever registered domain names back in the 80s and 90s could make a lot of money today (and many actually did). Domain sales is a big business.
Today, 668,000 domain names are registered every month!
