The Redesign of the Mouse
By admin on Jul 24, 2010 in Guest Blogger, Hardware
The following is a guest post by Michael Blumreich, who is a contributor for the aptly named laptop review site LaptopReviews.com. He’s currently a university student and lover of all things tech.
Since the inception of the first modern mouse in 1975, the design hasn’t changed much. Sure, the latest technology features laser positioning instead of that dust collecting rubber track ball, and designers have added additional features like scroll wheels, but the basic idea is still very similar to the first modern prototypes, created for Xerox 35 years ago.
That may be changing, however, if Swiftpoint has its way. Swiftpoint, a company based out of New Zealand, has done the previously unimaginable and has redesigned the mouse, taking it out of its prolonged infancy and into a whole new sphere of efficiency.
“It is extremely exciting to be able to announce to the world that the Swiftpoint mouse will be available in a matter of weeks,” says company CEO and product inventor Grant Odgers, “We have been receiving regular enquiries from people wanting to know when they can get their hands on one, so now we can confirm it is very soon.”
Computer users will be able to hold the new Swiftpoint mouse in two fingers rather than using their whole hand. What’s more, the wireless device can run for an hour off one minute of charging and could easily replace a laptop touch screen mouse without requiring a flat surface like other mouse options sold on the market today. In studies conducted by the company, the mouse performed at about 0-40% more accuracy than touchpad products and is more ergonomic than other mice, with a natural, pen like grip. Unlike other ergonomic mouse products, the Swiftpoint combines portability, comfort, and accuracy which hasn’t been seen to this degree on the market yet.
Despite the products many benefits, it remains to be seen if the Swiftpoint mouse will make any market headway. Previous attempts at a more ergonomic mouse have met with disapproval and lukewarm sales. Unfortunately, the mouse will cost around $100 when it goes on sale at Amazon and the company’s website (www.futuremouse.com) in late 2010. Future sale expansions are planned, and prices do have a tendency to drop after a product like this has been on the market for a while.

Just to advise, the price of the Swiftpoint mouse in the USA is $69.95- Swiftpoint support.
